SLRF Week 5 Review + a cute story

Thursday, August 9, 2007, 03:21 PM EST [General]

Oops, I just realized I hadn't posted my weeks 1-4 reviews here...my bad ^^; Well, here's my review of the final weekend of Silver Leaf.

And finally, the week 5 review of SLRF :)

ZOMG, MOM WENT TO SLRF!!! *flails* SQUEEEE!!! I was so excited when I called my dad after scene 1 backstage and he told me that he and mom were on their way to faire. I just about exploded with happiness! Mom's not been to a faire since I was a wee lil kid, like I was about 5 at the time, I think. For the past few years, I've wanted to get her out to a faire so she could see why I've become so fascinated by it. I also wanted her to see the KOI shows because as you know I've been a huge KOI fangirl and talk about them all the time at home :b So anywho, mom and dad missed scene 1, but were there the rest of the day and saw the other scenes which made me uber happy. Mom was in awe by the acting and fighting, and loved the show. I think it's hysterical what she told me after we all got home. She had over the course of the day met a few of the cast members, in character, but totally blanked when they talked to her XD We had a good laugh about it because I had told her over and over that it was perfectly fine to talk to them "normally", but she still blanked and wasn't sure how to respond back, teehee! I wish I'd have been able to see that; maybe I could've helped her out :b Silly mom *giggle* It was funniest to watch her reactions to the chess match from across the field, especially during the moments when Percard was getting scolded by Mordred and when Guinevere challenged Morganna. Priceless XD I think the funniest thing she mentioned about her day was when she and dad ran into Steve Conrad, because she thought that he was like a cop wearing a kilt or something *snicker* I'm glad she had a fun day :) Even if she totally blanked around the cast, lol!

Now, aside from the above, Saturday was awesome! I declared it to be "adorable children day", because I didn't run into one problem child all day. Instead, I got to meet some kids who just made my heart melt. Especially this little girl after the chess match, but I'll detail that story in a bit. Anywho, so we (meaning Kevin S. and Diane, and Kevin R. and I) decided to try something a lil different with our characters, expanding on the proposal idea from the previous weekend. Right after scene 1, the guys brought us onto the mulch pond (Field of Legends) and Gawaine wanders off to talk to the audience while Evelyn and Eleanor (I'm talking about my char in third person...my bad) wonder what he's up to and send Galahad over to check on him. Apparently he was getting advice on how to propose or something from the patrons. Then comes the proposal to Eleanor, yay happy, and then Galahad proposes to Evelyn, and more happy, and Evelyn and I oogle each other's rings and then we go bother King Arthur to see if he'll perform the weddings later that day. So we get to spend the day looking like a cute couple, showing off the ring to people, and letting them know about the weddings which took place at about 5 PM. We had some very interesting crowds that day at all the shows. Lots of cheering kids, and a few who really showed their dislike of the baddies (esp in the chess match, lol). So Gawaine and Eleanor, and Galahad and Evelyn got married. There was supposed to be a lil bit with D'Khan trying to break up the wedding of Galahad and Evelyn (to kinda set up the fight between D'Khan and Galahad in the chess match), but there was some misinformation about locations (and we relocated from the actual planned place due to lack of patrons), so that kinda didn't happen. Ah well.

Later after the chess match, lots of kids want to hurry and finish all the tasks to be knighted, and this adorable lil girl comes up to me and asks to do my task. I notice that she's already done Evelyn's and Eylane's tasks, and I tell her about my task and then she gets distracted by everything from my jewelry to the color of my nails, hehe. So she decides she'd rather chat with me for a bit first, showing me the rose her parents bought her and comparing our blue dresses, and then she decides she's ready to do my task. As I'm pinning my favor to her dress, she starts asking me questions and the conversation ends up like this..

Girl: "Are you a real princess?"
    Eleanor: "Why yes I am."
    Girl: "Where do you live?"
Eleanor: "Well, I have a lovely castle back home in England."
Girl: "Do you have a dragon?"
Eleanor: "No, I'm afraid I don't have one. Do you like dragons?"
Girl: "Yeah. You should get a dragon cuz it can guard your castle for you from bad guys."
Eleanor: "You know, that's a good idea. I shall have to look for one!"
    Girl: "What's your bedroom like?"
Eleanor: "Well, it's quite large and has a lot of things in it."
Girl: "What color is the carpet?"
Eleanor: *is at this point trying her darnest not to giggle* "It's a lovely shade of blue."
Girl: "What color are the walls? Do you have stuff on them?"
Eleanor: "The walls are a nice cream color, and they have paintings hanging on them."
Girl: "Oh, so they're kind of white?"
    Eleanor: "Indeed."

And so on...*giggling like crazy* That little girl was absolutely adorable, and I think she honestly believed I was a princess. She was so curious about everything, and her father was taking a lot of pictures. My friend Kristin was also taking tons of pics, which are so cute! Before she left, after taking Gawaine's task and talking to us some more, she gave me a hug and ran off with her family. So cute! Even I felt like a princess after that convo.

So, my first experience being on cast at a faire was awesome :D I wouldn't trade anything for it! Thank you so much everyone who's helped me out this season - staff, cast, KOI, and all my friends who supported me. I've learned tons, and I look forward to learning more in the future. Steve, again, thanks for accepting me onto the SLRF cast; Dale, thanks for allowing me to be a part of the LoKA show! Kudos and slushies for all! :d

Tuesday, July 31, 2007, 12:14 AM EST [General]

Well that's annoying...I accidentally posted a second copy of an image in my SLRF gallery, but it refuses to let me delete it, no matter how many times I try...  Lovely.  Hope that gets fixed.

That aside, I have posted lots of SLRF pics, so be sure to take a look and comment if you'd like!  There be just one weekend left of the Silver Leaf Ren Faire, so if you've not had a chance to make it out there yet, and you are able, please do so this weekend :D  Already went?  Got pics?  Be sure to share the link to the images, because I would love to browse them.  I can't get enough of faire pics :b

Anywho, if you need info about SLRF, check my previous blog entry for all the lovely details.

    Anon!

Finally, an update (aka a braindump)!

Wednesday, June 27, 2007, 06:51 PM EST [General]

    Long time no update!

Wow, I've been so distracted lately by all sorts of stuff that I haven't updated in a while.  Sorry guys!  Here ya go.

    Mayfaire opening day
Well, I was glad to see that more of the site had been brought into the shade, but I honestly didn't notice many changes from last year.  I'm really not going to go into detail this time.  I only saw two shows the whole day (cuz I've already seen most of the shows at other faires), which were the Maidens IV (they're really good!  I was impressed) and Djilia (great job singing, Liz!).  I had a long wait for just a simple hot dog and a slushie (at least the hot dog wasn't cold...), which was a tad annoying.  I was sad that I only ran into the court in the morning before the faire opened, and at the very end.  I wanted to chat with them.  Apparently they were all kinda stuck in the court encampment because of lots of patrons wanting to talk to them and stuff.  I was glad when my friend Kristin showed up so I could talk to someone, because it didn't take me long to check out all the vendors.  It was too quiet all day, for me.  Maybe I just happened to be in the wrong locations at the wrong time...I dunno.  I absolutely loved the birds near the front gate, especially the adorable lovebird ^^  Does anyone know what the name of that group was?  I would like to get in contact with them.

Anywho, here's what few pics I actually did take that day:

    POTC:AWE dinner n' movie
A big thanks to everyone that came out to this!  We had a small group, but we all had fun, and our non-garbed "soon to be corrupted to rennieism" groupie (one of Alli's friends) was starting to wish she had garb :)  Alli, your mission is to get them out to faire this year!  Starting with SLRF, of course, if you can all make it out to visit meeee!  Anywho, I'll post my movie review in another blog with spoiler warnings galore, because it's long and I dunno why I hadn't posted it yet...it's already written ^^;  I'm miffed that I forgot to take pics of our group :b

    SLRFage
Memorial Day -- I got to be in an actual parade, yay!  I wasn't really sure what to do other than follow the formation according to Sam, but it was still nice to be able to walk as part of the SLRF group.  And then we all went over to Mayfaire in civvies *giggle*  I totally failed at that the instant I went in the gate and got addressed (by a cast member) as Duchess, and my brain switched right over to persona mode :b  It was so hard to remember I wasn't in character while at Faire.  The closest I've been to attending a Faire in civvies was when I went to MRF on Day of Wrongs in my Slytherin outfit.  Anywho, I got to hang around with the KOI for a while, which got really fun when Kristy and John challenged a bunch of kids to boffer fights *giggle*  Kid pile!!!  Hehe.  Toward the end of the day, I got to run around as an Amazon again, which is always loads of fun.  Wheeee.

There's some pics from Memorial Day at Mayfaire here (you can see some of the Amazon pics at the Leather Lore website):

    KOI
I'm on steeeeel now :D  Fweeeee! *happy dance*  Well, I haven't had many chances to play with a rapier though because I've been practicing bokken some more, but I'm on steel, so yay!  It's been fun watching the LoKA cast running their fights during rehearsal, because I've always been curious how they put the shows together.  I'm just used to seeing the final performances done flawlessly, from my point of view, so watching them practicing to get everything just right is pretty kewl.  It's kinda like how I am more fascinated by really sketchy concept art than the final piece of art.  Maybe I'm just wierd like that.  I dunno :b

*~*10 MORE DAYS UNTIL THE SILVER LEAF RENAISSANCE FAIRE*~*

    Random musings...

    - Job hunting sucks T_T  I'm really getting depressed because my summer is quickly running out, and I still need to get some kind of actual income to at least be able to repay my dad for all the gas money I've gone through going to all the SLRF rehearsals/promos/etc.  I feel bad that I can't pay him anything right now.  I feel worse that none of the places I've sent my resume to have bothered to call me or email me back, and tell me they're not interested in hiring me.  It's like my Associate's Degree is completely useless to me right now, and all I'm trying to find is a simple desk job...something data entry or secretarial, or (due to lack of much time left) even temp jobs.  *le sigh* I'm worrying a lot now that when I get my Bachelor's Degree, things won't be any better for me....

    - Rule #1 of dealing with door-to-door sales people -- kindly turn them away if you open your door to them.  Do not, I repeat, do not let them tempt you with offers of "free" services and allow them to invade your home.  I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but I'd like the past 2 hours of my life back, thank you very much.  I need to make sure I'm present any time mom opens the door to someone...oi.

    - I have so much camera envy it's not even funny anymore O_o;  Ok...maybe it is.

    - I've lost my doodle muse.  Yep, it's gone on its own vacation and left me behind.  Meh!

    - I have the greatest urge to sew myself a new court gown for MRF, but I can't because of a lack of income from a lack of a job, and the only fabrics I have enough of in my stash are more red velveteen and tapestry, gold brocade, and purple/gold brocade.  Again, MEH!

    - I want a good ol' boomy, exciting, lightning-filled thunderstorm of yayness.  The storms around here keep passing us by, and I'm getting bored of them.

    - I only have one free Saturday between now and the end of MRF XD  That amuses me.

    - Someone PLEASE kick those sales people out of my house so I can get some food already!  I'm hungry!  Their product is NOT WORTH $1000+!!!  GEEZ!

    Some new pics

Thursday, June 14, 2007, 01:58 AM EST [General]

So I posted a new mundane pic, and some new pics relating to the Silver Leaf Renaissance Faire, where of course I will be playing a role this summer. If you'd like to see what all I'm involved with, check out the character pages on the following website:

    http://knightsofiron.com/

If you click on the SLRF banner at the top of the homepage, and then scroll down to the first collage of pictures and click on the image of the Knight in blue and black (Sir Gawaine), you'll find me :)

Be sure to introduce yourself to me/Lady Eleanor if you come out to SLRF this July/August. Do note however that I will only be there every Saturday of the faire run.

    Cheers!

(otherwise known as Duchess Lucrezia, but not at SLRF this year, hehe)
